Senior Technician - HVAC

Boca Raton, FL

Experienced

Location: Southeast, FL (serving tri-county area)
About Us Air Force HVAC has been a trusted name in South Florida for over 5 years, delivering reliable residential HVAC service, installation, and maintenance across Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties. Our slogan, “Your Home, Our Mission,” guides everything we do.

We are on track to grow 8x year-over-year at the top line as we expand our technician team, client base, and service offerings. To achieve this ambitious growth, we are seeking a hands-on Field Service Manager to help us scale with excellence, develop leaders, and ensure operational discipline.

The Senior HVAC Technician is a top-tier, hands-on technical role responsible for performing complex installations, diagnostics, and repairs across residential and light commercial systems — including VRF, VAV, and commercial rooftop/split units. Beyond the technical work, this person leads by example in the field: mentoring junior and mid-level technicians, modeling strong sales conversations with customers, and reinforcing the standards the company runs on.

This is not a desk job. The Senior Technician spends the vast majority of their time on tools, in trucks, and on job sites — setting the pace for the rest of the field team through the quality of their own work and the way they carry themselves with customers.

Speed, craftsmanship, and consistency are non-negotiable in this position.

Primary Accountabilities

  • Perform complex commercial HVAC service, diagnostics, repairs, commissioning support, preventive maintenance, and installation support.
  • Serve as the escalation point for difficult technical calls and validate diagnoses through measurements, operating data, schematics, and sequence of operation.
  • Mentor developing technicians, reinforce proper diagnostic methodology, and identify recurring training or performance gaps.
  • Coordinate professionally with property managers, building engineers, facility teams, general contractors, and commercial clients.
  • Maintain complete job documentation, equipment data, readings, photographs, parts requirements,
  • recommendations, and job-status communication.
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, test instruments, and field resources in professional, job-ready condition.
  • Commercial Systems Competency
  • Strong field competency is expected across multiple commercial system categories, including:
  • Packaged rooftop units (RTUs) and commercial split systems
  • Water-source heat pumps (WSHP) and condenser-water-loop systems
  • VRF/VRV systems and variable-capacity commercial equipment
  • VAV systems, commercial air distribution, outside air, ventilation, and economizers
  • Chilled-water fan coils, air handlers, hydronic heating/cooling systems, pumps, and control valves
  • Cooling towers and associated condenser-water systems
  • Commercial electrical systems, controls, VFDs, sensors, safeties, and BAS/DDC fundamentals

Technical Standard
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to distinguish equipment-level failures from broader building-system
conditions. Diagnosis should integrate refrigeration, electrical, airflow, controls, water flow, heat transfer, and
manufacturer operating data rather than rely on assumption or unnecessary component replacement.

  • Refrigeration: pressures, saturation temperatures, superheat, subcooling, temperature split, metering, compressor performance, and heat-transfer conditions.
  • Electrical/Controls: high- and low-voltage circuits, transformers, relays, contactors, motors, safeties, sensors, transducers, VFDs, control boards, communication circuits, and wiring diagrams.
  • Hydronic/Water-Side: entering/leaving water temperatures, water flow, strainers, valves, pumps, condenser-water loops, chilled-water systems, and cooling-tower interaction.
  • Airflow: static pressure, blower performance, VAV operation, duct restrictions, ventilation, outside air, and air-balancing fundamentals.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of hands-on HVAC field experience with meaningful commercial service exposure.
  • Demonstrated independent troubleshooting and diagnostic capability.
  • EPA Section 608 certification and valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, technical literature, and sequence-of-operation documentation.
  • Comfort with digital field-service platforms, mobile documentation, photographs, work orders, and electronic communication.
  • Ability to work safely in rooftops, mechanical rooms, high-rise/commercial environments, and other field conditions.
  • Bilingual communication skills strongly preferred; English/Spanish proficiency is highly desirable for South Florida commercial operations and customer coordination.
  • Must possess and maintain the minimum professional hand tools and HVAC diagnostic instruments required to independently perform commercial service and troubleshooting; company-provided specialty equipment may be supplied as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Manufacturer training is valued, but transferable commercial-system competency is more important than any single brand.
  • VRF/VRV, WSHP, RTU, VAV, chilled-water, hydronic, cooling-tower, BAS/DDC, and VFD experience.
  • High-rise, multifamily, hospitality, healthcare, institutional, or commercial retrofit experience.
  • Track record of mentoring technicians or leading commercial installations and commissioning.

Success Profile
The right technician diagnoses before replacing, measures before assuming, understands sequence of operation,
knows when a problem belongs to the equipment versus the building system, uses technical resources intelligently,
takes ownership through completion and can teach another technician the reasoning behind the repair.

Compensation &; Benefits
Base Salary: $65,000–$85,000, based on demonstrated experience and technical capability.
Benefits include health, dental and vision coverage; PTO and sick time; company vehicle where applicable; company technology and field resources; performance-based opportunities; and advancement within a growing commercial operation.
