Lead Technician - Commercial HVAC

Miami, FL
Full Time
Experienced

Location: Southeast, FL (serving tri-county area — Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties)

About Us

Air Force HVAC has been a trusted name in South Florida for over 5 years, delivering reliable residential HVAC service, installation, and maintenance across Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties. Our slogan, "Your Home, Our Mission," guides everything we do.

We are on track to grow 8x year-over-year at the top line as we expand our technician team, client base, and service offerings. To achieve this ambitious growth, we are seeking a hands-on Lead Technician - Commercial HVAC to anchor our commercial capabilities, set the technical standard, and help us scale with excellence.

The Lead Technician - Commercial HVAC is a top-tier, hands-on technical role responsible for performing complex installations, diagnostics, and repairs on commercial systems — including VAV, VRF, chillers, and rooftop units (RTUs). Beyond the technical work, this person leads by example on commercial job sites: mentoring other technicians on commercial-specific systems, owning the toughest diagnostic calls, and reinforcing the standards the company runs on.

This is not a desk job. The Lead Technician spends the vast majority of their time on tools, in trucks, and on commercial job sites — setting the pace for the rest of the field team through the quality of their own work and the way they carry themselves with customers and building staff.

Speed, craftsmanship, and consistency are non-negotiable in this position.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-On Technical Work
· Perform installations, service, maintenance, and repairs on commercial HVAC systems, with deep focus on VAV, VRF, chillers, and rooftop units (RTUs)
· Diagnose complex system issues and mechanical/electrical faults others escalate to you
· Maintain a high standard of workmanship on every job — this is the benchmark other technicians are held to
· Follow all safety standards, licensing requirements, and company SOPs
· Keep truck stock, tools, and equipment properly maintained and job-ready for commercial-scale work

Field Leadership & Mentorship
· Serve as the go-to technical resource for VAV, VRF, chiller, and RTU systems — answering questions, walking through tricky diagnostics, and modeling proper technique on-site
· Set the tone for professionalism, pace, and quality on commercial job sites
· Support onboarding of technicians moving into commercial work from a technical standpoint (not hiring/recruiting)
· Flag recurring technician performance or training gaps to the GM

Customer & Building Staff Coordination
· Communicate clearly with property managers, facilities staff, and building engineers on job status, system condition, and recommendations
· Present system replacement, retrofit, and maintenance agreement options where applicable
· Ensure accurate, timely documentation of work performed, parts used, and options presented
· Take pride in post-install and post-service quality — the kind of work that earns repeat commercial contracts and referrals

Systems & Reporting
· Strong working knowledge of Jobber and/or HouseCall Pro is required
· Keep job records, notes, and photos accurate and complete in the CRM/dispatch system
· Communicate job status, delays, and parts needs clearly to dispatch and the GM

Experience & Skills
· 5+ years of HVAC field experience
· 3+ years performing lead-level technical work on commercial systems (installs, complex diagnostics, VAV, VRF, chillers, RTUs)
· Deep, hands-on knowledge of VAV, VRF, chiller, and rooftop unit systems
· Proficient in Jobber and/or HouseCall Pro
· Comfortable mentoring and setting the technical standard for less experienced techs

Highly Preferred
· Manufacturer-specific training/certification on VRF systems (Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG, etc.) and/or chiller platforms
· Experience with building automation systems (BAS) integration
· Track record of leading commercial installs from start to finish
· Experience training or informally mentoring other technicians

Personal Attributes
· Leads from the truck, not the office
· Takes pride in technical craftsmanship and getting it right the first time
· Strong communicator with customers, building staff, and teammates alike
· Reliable, accountable, and self-directed
· Motivated by performance-based compensation

Compensation & Benefits
· Base Salary: $55,000 - $85,000 (based on experience)
· Health, Dental, and Vision benefits
· PTO + Sick days
· Company vehicle (if applicable)
· Strong growth trajectory within a rapidly scaling company
